Craig_TP_#5(S)

Tonight I took my tutees rock climbing in Railroad square. I was the first time I had been to railroad square and we all enjoyed ourselves a lot. It cost us $20 each and we got a safety class (carabiner, belay, harness, clip, click), a harness, and shoes. This was one of my tutee's ideas(Ben) because he's enlisting in the US Army and wanted to acquire some situational vocabulary. After learning a few knots(retrace, to 'dress' a knot, loose) we were ready to climb.

My tutees were killing it on the rock wall and Nico(the resident climber) was helping us all get a handle on some of the esoteric vocab associated with climbing(bouldering, handholds, and the rating system for determining a climb's difficulty). We also discussed that you don't need a preposition when climbing something. You simply climb a wall, you don't climb on a wall.

We also had a mini culture lesson since we all rode together. We drove through FAMU's homecoming celebrations and discussed the cultural differences between FAMU and FSU. When we first arrived at Railroad Square we went in a thrift store and talked about what a thrift store is and the purpose behind it.
