The other night I met with one of my assigned conversation partners, Jasass. Jasass is from Jeddah, Suadi Arabia. He is in Group 1 for all subjects, and wants to learn English to pass the ILS exam and eventually study Social Work at Florida State. After graduating from FSU he would like to return to Saudi Arabia and work in a local hospital. His family consists of his one year old son and his 24 year old wife. He has been in the US from about five months and has spent two of those in Houston, Texas.
This information(rather the getting it) helped me determine what level Jasass is and what would be most beneficial to him. I think that simple conversation once or twice a week will help him, but he needs some further help. I suggested some simple songs(about 10) that he watch with the lyrical accompaniment. I also suggested he have at least one other conversation partner to practice English with.
